Solving problems in digital environments means learning how to deal with technical problems that arise when using digital tools and devices. This includes identifying problems and finding solutions, experimenting with different options, and using critical thinking and logic to solve the problem.

Why is this important? Nowadays, we are becoming increasingly reliant on digital technology, and it can be quite stressful when something goes wrong. By learning how to solve problems in digital environments, you increase your self-confidence and reduce frustration and stress. It enables you to work and communicate more effectively with others in digital environments. It is also a valuable skill in many jobs and careers, as employers often look for people who are able to solve technical problems and come up with innovative solutions.

The problem-solving competencies.

5.1 Recognizing technical problems when operating devices and using digital environments and solving them (from troubleshooting to resolving more complex problems).

5.2 Assessing needs and recognizing, evaluating, selecting, and using digital tools and possible technological solutions. Adapting digital environments and aligning them with personal needs (e.g. accessibility).

5.3 Using digital tools and technologies to create knowledge and innovate processes and products. Participating in individual and collective cognitive processing to understand and solve conceptual problems and problem situations in digital environments.

5.4 Understanding where one's own digital competence needs improvement or updating. Being able to support others in developing their digital competence. Seeking opportunities for self-development and staying up-to-date with digital developments.

Open Badges
Are you ready to learn new skills and earn an Open Badge? Whether you prefer working independently or need guidance, there are countless ways to get started. The great thing is that you get to choose what you want to focus on based on your own interests and passions. There are many ways to demonstrate these skills, and you have the freedom to explore different options that best suit you. The beauty of these competencies is that they all consist of four different mastery levels. This means that for each competency, you have the opportunity to earn an Open Badge at up to four different levels. Once you have confidence in your skills, it's time to show them to your coach or supervisor. When you have demonstrated your mastery, the Open Badge will be proudly awarded to you. What are you waiting for? Let's get started together on discovering and developing your competencies!

Other important skills
By strengthening your digital skills, you not only demonstrate digital competence, but also other important skills. For example, it is important to be able to read well on paper and on the screen. You also need to know how to behave responsibly as a citizen and how to fully participate in social and community life. When you are able to use traditional and new forms of media, critically evaluate them, and handle them well, you have also worked on the competency of 'citizenship'. Because it is important to understand the role and functions of media in democratic societies. So by developing digital skills, you can not only make better use of digital technologies, but also better participate in society and be a responsible citizen. It is therefore really worthwhile to continue developing and applying digital skills.

Tasks
Task no.1
Issued by organiser or scanning QR code
Create a plan with your coach on which tasks you will perform to master the following skills:
  • identifying simple technical problems when operating devices and using digital environments,
  • and recognizing simple solutions to these problems.

Examples to develop these skills:
  • Imagine you've just come home from a long day at work and you want to relax by watching a movie on your smart TV. But when you grab the remote and press the power button, nothing happens. What now? It could be that your TV is not plugged into the outlet, the batteries in the remote are dead, or something else is wrong. If you're not technically inclined, such a situation can be very frustrating. But by practicing how to identify simple technical problems and solutions, you can tackle these situations more easily. For example, you can learn to check first if your device is plugged in and if the remote batteries are still good. If that doesn't work, you can try unplugging the device and plugging it back in or resetting the remote.
  • Imagine that you've just bought a new smartphone and you want to take a selfie. You open the camera app, but you can't find the selfie mode. You try pressing different buttons, but it doesn't seem to work. In this case, it's important to know how to identify simple technical problems. The problem is that you can't find the selfie mode. One possible solution is to look for a button with an icon of a camera with a reverse arrow because this is usually the button to switch cameras. Once you've found this button and clicked on it, the camera should switch to the selfie mode.
By regularly practicing how to recognize these types of problems and solutions, you become more adept at operating devices and using digital environments. This way, you can more easily deal with technical problems in the future and avoid getting unnecessarily frustrated.
Step 1: Choose something you sometimes struggle with, but keep it simple.
Step 2: Come up with some possible solutions, and if you can't think of any, maybe someone in your environment can help you brainstorm possible solutions.

But that's not all - increase the value of your badge by adding your learning process and achievements to your badge. This allows potential employers to gain a better understanding of your digital skills.
